Schools in England have a legal duty to ensure the safety of all children and young people and to prevent all forms of bullying.
Our Anti-bullying Charter
At St Anne’s Primary we aim to foster a community built upon shared values and mutual respect. This is in order to ensure that everyone can come to school felling happy, loved and cared for. Pupils who feel happy and secure make better learners.
Our approach to tackling bullying is contained within our Peer on Peer abuse policy. We define bullying as “Unwanted, aggressive behaviour among school aged children that involves a real or perceived power imbalance. The behaviour is repeated, or has the potential to be repeated, over time.”
In order to be considered bullying, the behaviour must include:
An Imbalance of Power: Young people who bully use their power—such as physical strength, access to embarrassing information, or popularity—to control or harm others. Power imbalances can change over time and in different situations, even if they involve the same people.
Repetition: Bullying behaviours happen more than once or have the potential to happen more than once. Bullying includes actions such as making threats, spreading rumours, attacking someone physically or verbally or for a particular reason e.g. size, hair colour, gender, sexual orientation, and excluding someone from a group on purpose.
Our Anti-Bullying team is made up from children from all year groups and we are currently working towards the Bullying Intervention Group (BIG) Award.
We know that incidents of bullying can affect both the instigator and the recipient for many years. All children at St Anne’s are made aware they must report bullying to a trusted adult.
St Anne’s have provided some useful documents to view or download. If you need to raise a concern about bullying on behalf on your child, please contact the school to speak to your child’s teacher or to arrange a meeting with the Head Teacher.
