As a school body, the main focus and responsibility of all stake holders is to ensure that pupils demonstrate Christian values in their lives and relationships with others and to help people to flourish. Here at St Anne’s we want to take this beyond the school gates and in to the wider community.
We are proud to be part of our local community and aim to provide opportunities for children across the school to active in our local area and support community initiatives.
We have strong links with Woodhouse Close Church and Community Centre. We support their food bank and annual Christmas toy appeal. We also raise funds for our local Butterwick hospice with an annual Reindeer Run and have raised funds to support the opening of the community pantry at The Angel Trust.
We are regular visitors to the churches of St Anne’s and St Andrew’s as part of celebrations and the curriculum but also to participate in community services. Out Year 6 pupils lead a community Christmas service in St Anne’s each year and we always participate in the St Anne’s Christmas tree festival.
The pupils choose to support a number of national charities each year and fundraising events are held in school. These include: Children in Need, Red Nose Day, Save The Children Christmas Jumper Day and Macmillan.
Year Four Join Civic Pride Team for the Big Spring Clean
Year Four proudly teamed up with the Civic Pride Team from Durham County Council to play their part in this year’s Big Spring Clean. As part of their Global Neighbours project, Year Four have been exploring the theme “Keeping Bishop Auckland Clean and Safe.” During their weekly journeys to the swimming baths, pupils had noticed increasing amounts of litter along the route. Wanting to take action, they decided that litter picking would be a meaningful way to help protect and care for their local environment. The class contacted the Civic Pride Team, who kindly offered their support along with the resources needed to carry out the clean‑up. Armed with litter pickers and rubbish bags, the children set off on a sunny afternoon walk, collecting a surprising variety of discarded waste. Bag after bag was filled as they worked together, showing real teamwork, responsibility, and community spirit. By the end of their volunteering session, the route looked cleaner, safer, and much more welcoming—leaving a positive and lasting impact for everyone in Bishop Auckland to enjoy.
